Thinking of all of you-

Hello All You Hum 9er’s!

The last official day of classes has come and gone and I already feel a void in my heart. I have had a great year teaching you and more importantly- learning from all of you. You all have taught me so much about yourselves as learners and what I can do as an educator, to better assist you in your learning journey.

We have learned a lot about specific information in social studies, and how to write and read better in English, yet for me, this year was also about understanding and honouring who we all are as learners and how to advocate for ourselves. In reflection, I know that each of you have come far in both your personal and educational journey and I thank each one of you for allowing me to come along with you.

When you return next year, please do come find me and say hello, as I will miss you and how lovely it will be to hear from you.

I wish you all a summer filled with joy, happiness and most of all FUN!. Hopefully you'll pick up a something to read along the way and when you do, I hope you will stop and think of all the reading strategies you have learned and put them to use. I also hope that you continue to advocate for yourself and most importantly- Believe in yourself; I know I believe in each and every one of you. You are all capable of greatness. Be the change you want to see in the world (Mahatma Gandhi).

My best to you-
Most sincerely,
Ms. Minuk

2. What part of the play resonated (the part you could relate to) the most for you? Please explain
3. Which character could you relate to the most and why? The least and why?
4. What do you think is the most deadly of the 7 deadly sins?
5. If you were cast as one of the characters, who would you want it to be and why?
6. Share any connections you have.

37 comments:

  1. 1. What I thought play's strongest message was always be proud of yourself and how you look, Always believe in yourself - never doubt your true potential to be something great.

2.I think that it would be the part when the fairy in the mirror came out and helped Ashgirl. I thought this part I could relate to most was because if I am in trouble someone always comes to help me out.

3.The character I could relate to the most would be the otter because when there is trouble I usually run from it instead of facing my fears. The character I could least relate to would be the slug thing... because I am not lazy at all and I always have energy.

4.Out of the 7 deadly sins I think that greed would be the most deadly because greed can get you into a lot of trouble. And also its always good to enjoy what you have and not be too greedy.

5.I think I would want to be sadness because I think it would be a fun role to play and it has a completely different personality then me so I think that would be fun to do.

    6. a connection I had was a Text.. or play to self. My connection is from when I didn't want to go to a birthday party my friends seemed to pressure me into going even though I didn't want to like when the mom was trying to pressure ashgirl into going to the ball.

  2. Megan, Thanks so much for taking the time to answer all 6 questions/statement. I must say that I quite agree with what you thought was the strongest message- that whole thing about accepting yourself is so powerful. I truly believe that if you accept your self for who you are AND believe in your self, others will too (sorry, I am not trying to be corny). As well I want you to know that I really appreciate your honesty.

  3. 2. The part of the play I could relate to the most was the man in the mirror, and how he came to help.It reminded me of MJ's song "man in the mirror" and how that so called man can always help us see the better side of us.

    4. Of the 7 deadly sins I think the most deadly would be pride. Because all humans have it and it can make them destroy their friends and themselves because they always want the best stuff. Some people think they are the best at everything. Pride is also difficult to swallow.

    5. If I had to play a character I would play greedmonkey. I think it's a fun, energetic role to play. I also think elan did a great job playing the part. XD

  4. I didn't know where to post this.. because it really isn't relevant to any of the topics. But I just wanted to say to the person who created the banner for the top. I think it looks great!!!!! so much better than the school picture!

  5. 1. I think that what the message was was to have confidence in yourself and don't ever be afraid to believe in what you believe in.

    2. I thought that it would be the part when Ashgirl change using the fairie's help because that i'm someone who always needed support and once they help me, i can get the answer out of it.

    3. I also think that i would be the otter because some of the times i would just naturally run away from the probelm instead of facing it.

    4. I think that it would be Sloth because i think that you should always motivate yourself and never give up and just laying there to wait for the results isn't going to help.

    5. If i were to be one of the cast, i would be Wrath ( anger ) because i find him interesting as a sin, he seems to be the one who rushes to do things.

  6. 1)I think the plays strongest message is to be proud of who you are, and to always be true to yourself. Also to respect who you are as a person and no one other than you can decide who you want to be.

3)I think the character that I most relate to is the otter, like Meghan said, I am also kind of a scaredy cat. I run away from the smallest things. He also tries to run away from his fears instead of facing them.

    5) If I were to play one character I think it would be either Ash Girl or one of her step sisters. I think playing Ash Girl would be so much fun to be a survant girl then transform into a "princess" and get to go to the ball.

  7. I have a question about the play...... Did anyone understand the part about how the dad was lust and how he randomly had little "fits"? And also why did that person come out at the end in the grey cloak??

    ReplyDelete
  8. 1. I think the message of the play is to be yourself because if you don't accept yourself for who your are, you can't expect others to do the same.

    3. The character I can relate to the most would be Sloth since I'm lazy and relaxed. Wrath is the opposite of me. Always angry and ready to pick a fight with anyone.

    5. I'd like to be Owl. He's wise and sees the big picture.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 1. I think the message was to be yourself and see yourself as what you want to be.(if that makes any sense.)
3.I can most relate to the one of the stepsisters because i do almost anything when i am asked or told to do it.
    5. I would want to be the fairy godmother because always makes things work out, even if it isn't the way it was planned. I guess that life usually does that itself, but it would be awesome when something went wrong, to be able to be like "don't worry, i know this wasn't what you wanted, but i can tell you for sure, that you will be happy with what happens in the end."
I wish fairytales really did happen.

  10. FORGOT TO POST THIS ON MY OTHER ONE.
    4. i think that greed would be the deadliest sin, because its the kind of thing that once you start being greedy, you can't stop, you just want more and more. snowballing out of control, until you become an annoying, mean tyrant like king louis IV

    ReplyDelete
  11. 1. I think the main message of the play is to be happy with who you are, and don't change yourself because of what others think of you.

    5. I'd like to be the fairy in the mirror, because he was the one that showed ash girl that change it good, and he help her make her dream come true, for going to the ball.

    4. I think the most deadly, out of the seven deadly sins is greed, cause the stepmom was greedy and she made both her daughters cut off a part of their foot, so it's kind of like you'll do really stupid things if your greedy.

    ReplyDelete
  12. 1.) I think the plays strongest message is to always belive in yourself and follow your dreams, no matter how far you are buried in the ashes, have the courage to come out. Life does have some dark times, but you can live through it.
2.)I think it was when the fairy helped Ashgirl find out how to achive her dream and keep her positive. People say that i am quite a positive person and help people out when they need it.
3.) For me it would either be the fairy in the mirror because I help people out in situations and am a fun character. Also, i could relate to Ruth and Judith, trying to please parents and other people is what i tend to do alot.
4.) Sadness is the most deadly sin because she can make the world so dark, you wish you were not in it. Sadness is all you can think of at the time, and it makes you think some pretty dark thoughts.
5.) I would want to be sadness. I loved the way the writer gave her long poetic monologues explaining to ashgirl why she should end her life. I also think Crystal did an AWESOME job :)

  13. well meghan, from what I understand, the dad ran away to the forest, since he was possesed by lust. The little fits was him transforming from the dad to lust, when the sin overpowered him. the end with the grey cloak, was just to have both of them on stage at the same time.
    hope that helped! :)

  14. 1. I think the strongest message of the play was to persevere and keep going on what you believe in. Be an optimist, think of the glass as half full. If you keep being a pessimist & never take a risk, you might never reach your goal and nothing will ever change. The fairy was only a little PUSH to help guide Sophia`s way, but from there on, it was all up to her.
    2. The part that resonated the most for me, was when the stepsisters started dogpiling on "the ash girl". It`s mostly because for me, it would remind me of the times me and my brother would argue & get into fights, and seeing the stepsisters do that, it`d make me think, "wow. that`s silly. who would ever want to do that?"
    4. I think the most deadly of the 7 deadly sins is probably sloth (since i possess this sin). In my mind, you can`t be overwhelmed by anger/pride/envy/greed/gluttony/sadness/lust, because you`d be WAYY too busy being lazy all day long to be thinking of that. Just like the sloth/slugworm in the play :D All he wanted to do was sleep and not move at all.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 1. I think that the strongest message of the play was that we should not let ourselves be overcome by sadness and self-pity. Sadness will always be there -as will the seven deadly sins-, hovering, waiting for its chance to overwhelm anyone who will succumb to them and you must never let that happen.
    4. I think that the most deadly sin is Pride because I believe that every other sins stems from it. One would have to be full of pride to think that everything belongs to them and be greedy. To be good enough to not do anything and just be sloths or to be angry at everything because the ones full of anger think they are better and everyone else don't deserve to be alive. Or to be envious of anyone who is better than them because they think they would be the only ones in the world who should be perfect and be gluttonous because they think they are the only ones who deserve such a huge amount of food or any another luxury. And last but not the least, to think that they are the best that they will lust for those who they think are beautiful and that those they do lust for, will be overjoyed by the fact that they have the honor of being the one you lust after. Therefore, I think that pride is deadliest sin.
    5. If i were cast as one of the characters, i would want to be the faierie because I enjoy making people happy. If I were in a room full of gloomy people who were sulking with no good reason -I wouldnt try to cheer people up if they were in a funeral :D- I would want to cheer everyone up. Being with sad and sulky people is no fun at all and I think its better if everyone was just happy. Happy.... oh so Happy....

    ReplyDelete
  16. 1)I think the message from the play was to tell you to always think positively about yourself and be proud of who you are.

3)The character that I would relate to the most would be the fairy in the mirror because he is a very bright person who also give great ideas, which is like me.The least character that I would relate to would be the slug because during the play he he didn't really do much,he was being very lazy and I'm definitly not that type of person,I always try to get active in any way I could.

5)If I could be any character in the play I would most likely be the owl because he is was a very bright person and actually know whats happening around him.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 2)I think the part " when Ash Girl misses her father a lot and have to stay with her stepmother and two evil sisters. Ash Girl wants to spent more time with her father but he has to battle monsters and it is too dangerous for Ash Girl" I think this part related to me the most because I want to spent times with my father but he has to do business and he have to left me, my brother and my mom here. Also I want to spent times with my father so much.(my mother and my brother are NOT evil)
3)The fair in the mirror I think I could most related to because he's a person who's funny and a bit forget less . I think I am that kind of person; I always make my friends laugh and sometimes I forgets things easily. The least person that I can relate to is the stepmother because I would never ever make my children to cut of their toes for ankles to fit into a shoe so they could marry to the prince. I think there's things that are more important than money.
    5) If I could be any character in the play, I would pick the slug because I think he's pretty funny and lazy. ( I'm of lazy and kind of funny)

  18. 1. I believe the most powerful message is how you should believe in yourself and not let negativity get to you.
    2. A part of the play I can totally relate to is how Ash Girl was almost taken over by sadness. I have had experienced a great deal of sadness once in a while during my life, and I can absolutely relate on how Ash Girl feels like.
    4. The most deadly of the deadly sins is sadness. I've become sort of biased after watching the play. The play used Sadness as the most powerful one so i've become biased just because on what Sadness did to Ash Girl .
    5. I would be greedmonkey. Sometimes I want things I do not really need but I still want them. Which is sort of a sin, and that is a bad thing. But don't we always want what we can't have?

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1. i think that one of the major themes of the play was to always have hope and to always believe in yourself
    2. the part where i can most relate to is when ash girl almost gave up hope because i have had been in situations that seemed like there was no hope left
    4. i think the most deadly sin is anger bird because he can start wars between two people or two nations it could mean one people getting hurt or lots of people getting killed.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 4. I think the most deadly of the deadly sins is greed because one of the most important thing for friends is trust but if there is greed u can betray your friend just for some xpensive materials.
    3. The person i would relate to the most is the owl because i think i give good advice for people. The person i relate to the least is the stepmother of the ash girl because i wouldnt tell people to cut off my daughters toe just so u can be rich.
    1. I think the message of ash girl is don't be put down because of what others say as long as you try anything can be possible.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 1. I think the message was to never give up on yourself and always have faith in yourself and believe in what you can do.
    4. I thought that sadness was the most deadly because she was the one that was causing most trouble.
    5. I would want to be ashy out of all other characters because in the end, she was the one that turned out to be the most victorious one.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1. Out of the seven deadly sins I think pride is the worst because this could ruin your relationships with others like your family and friends. Also you think so high of yourself you won't say sorry to anyone because you think you're always right.

    2. The character I would want to be is greedmonkey. Not that I'm greedy but I'm bouncy and energetic just like him.

    3. I think the message of the play is JUST BE YOURSELF!!!! Don't let what other people say affect how you live your life. It's your life, you decide what to do with it, not other people!!!!

    =)

    ReplyDelete
  23. 1. I think the story's message is that to always be yourself and not to be affected by what others think of you.
    4. I think the deadliest sin of the deadly sins is greed because it makes people full of themselves and become a self - centered person.
    5. I would be a faerie because i would love to make people happy, and to be able to wear that awesome tuxedo (:

    ReplyDelete
  24. 3. I think I can relate to the two sisters the most. They've been haunted by Greed and Gluttony throughout the play. I often have those voices going on inside my head. I cannot relate to Angerbird, because I rarely get angry
    4. The most deadly sin to me is Pride, because if he wasn't the deadliest, he wouldn't have been made leader.
    5. I would want to be Sloth, because he's lazy like me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Michael, I totally get the awesome tuxedo thing! = )

    ReplyDelete
  26. 1. i think the plays major theme or message is to be true to yourself because thats all that really matters and counts in the end. no matter what people say, your going to be you for your whole life, so live the way you should.
    3. i personally think everyone could relate to ash girl, because in high school many bad decisions are made due to peer pressure [ the two evil sisters and the mother ] and everyone has their own conflicts.
    4. i think the most deadly sin of out the seven is greed, because greed makes you want more and more no matter how you'll get it. It will get you into difficult and harsh situations.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 1. i think the message is to be who you are, no matter what anyone says, if you follow your dreams, it will come true. You have to believe in yourself and have self confidence.
    3. The character i can relate to the most is the otter, even thought he is a loyal friend, hes afraid of many things, he doesnt like to face his fear.
    5. I would like to be the fairy cause i love his bubbly positve personality and outlook on life, everyone needs a little bit of the fairy in them : )

    ReplyDelete
  28. Touche Becky... Everyone does need a little bit of the fairy in them! = )

    ReplyDelete
  29. 4.)I think the most deadly sin is "Pride" because I feel it is somehow the source of the others. To think your better than everyone at everything not recognizing others ackomplishments.

5.)I would be the mouse because they turn into horses, that seems like an interesting experience...

    ReplyDelete
  30. 1) I think this play's strongest message was that you have to find yourself, believe in yourself, and when you feel depressed, just keep on breathing, and don't give up.

3)I guess i can relate to anger... I might not always act like it, but it's in my mind all the time...i guess i just learned to control it, so its good =) I least relate to the stepmother. I would never ask my kids to change anything in their appearance for my own profit.

    4) In my opinion, the deadliest of the 7 sins is greed. Its the most betraying, selfish and disgusting sin there is.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 1) i think that the play's strongest message is to believe in yourself, in who and what you are...and also that if you have a dram, a desire, one that you think is really really important to you, you shouldn't be afraid of pursuing it and trying to make it come true

    4) I personally think that sadness is the dealiest sin, followed by anger (yes, i know sadness isn't exactly a sin but...it was still mentioned so yeah >.< ) i think this way because even though anger can make you hurt people, or even yourself; sometimes sadness can be the cause of your anger. i think sadness can go deeper than anger...it can make you fall into depression, u can harm yourself without even realizing it, or even other people who care about you. You hurt inside without even realizing it until it's too late

    5) if i was in the cast i would like to play sloth because i can be extreamly lazy sometimes...even though i don't mind it much x]
or sadness, i really liked her script, the way she described it all...or even anger =) it looked like fun lolz :]

  32. oops my bad... dream*

5:) i think it would be ash girl, stepsisters or the evil step mother because though's are my favorite ladies. when we watched it i felt like i was in the ladies body's and it seams like went all by so fast.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

  34. 1. I think th most deadly sin out of the 7 would b greed.
    2. If i was cast to be one of the characters in the play i would be the sloth...must i say more
    3. I can relat mostly to th sloth bcuz i can be a lazy person at times. I can relat least to the ash girl bcuz i dnt like being deprested.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 3) i would relate to the slug man the most cause i'm very lazy and the character i wont relate 2 the most is ash girl becaues i dont like to work
    4) i think the most deady sin is envy because umm the name explains it!
    5) if i could b a caracter i would b the slug man! Because he is lazy and does nothing but say random stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 1) i think the message of the story is to overcome your fear. Sometimes u have to break out of your comfort zone and take risks.
    3) i think i relate most to the sloth because of my sleeping habits.
5)if i could be one of the character i would choose the fairy from the mirror because hes a kind and thoughtful human being with a great sense of style.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1. The strongest message from the play was to be optimistic. With negative thoughts, Ashgirl had stood still as time gradually passed. One has to look at obstacles in different angles no matter how troublesome it seems because it’s life. You can’t just stop living.
    2. The part where the stepsisters attacked Ashgirl reminded me of my childhood where I fought with my brother often just because of little, silly things.
    3. As a teenager with major mood swings, I would mostly relate myself to the Ashgirl. Sometimes, I would be stuck in depression no matter how well everything seemed from others’ point of view. Mostly, I look at the negative points and end up being sad.. 
    4. I believe that pride is the source of all the deadly sins. It allures successful people to be boastful and superior. By being proud, one would not share with other people; therefore, becoming greedy. It also stops one from going forward and resting in one place. Also becoming envious and gluttonous from all the wealth. I think the least deadly sin is sloth. No matter how lazy people can get, people finish their parts in the end. If not, the world would be chaotic.
    5. If I were cast as one of the characters, I would want to be the fairy because I love helping other people. Seeing others happy brings me happiness too. :) If I had a different choice, I would choose anger because I have a personality like fire.
