Thinking of all of you-

Hello All You Hum 9er’s!

The last official day of classes has come and gone and I already feel a void in my heart. I have had a great year teaching you and more importantly- learning from all of you. You all have taught me so much about yourselves as learners and what I can do as an educator, to better assist you in your learning journey.

We have learned a lot about specific information in social studies, and how to write and read better in English, yet for me, this year was also about understanding and honouring who we all are as learners and how to advocate for ourselves. In reflection, I know that each of you have come far in both your personal and educational journey and I thank each one of you for allowing me to come along with you.

When you return next year, please do come find me and say hello, as I will miss you and how lovely it will be to hear from you.

I wish you all a summer filled with joy, happiness and most of all FUN!. Hopefully you'll pick up a something to read along the way and when you do, I hope you will stop and think of all the reading strategies you have learned and put them to use. I also hope that you continue to advocate for yourself and most importantly- Believe in yourself; I know I believe in each and every one of you. You are all capable of greatness. Be the change you want to see in the world (Mahatma Gandhi).

My best to you-
Most sincerely,
Ms. Minuk

Wanted: Your Thoughts on Our Class Blog

I have been asked to write about our class blog for a teacher newsletter and am very interested in hearing your thoughts. Let me know: if you like having the class blog/why; if you use it/for what; if you wish other classes had one/why; if you could change something about it, what would it be? If there is anything else you would like to say, please feel free to let me know.
With thanks, Ms. Minuk (first time blogger)

  1. I personally like the class blog because it helps me if I forgot to write down the homework or I need to go over the instructions again. I enjoy having the youtube videos on the blog as well. They help to give a bigger picture about what our class is learning about. I think that for Math, I and others would benefit from having it in math because sometimes when I are home and I have a question about the math, I am unable to get my homework finished. Something tht I think could change on the blog would be...for more people to be active on it although you can't really change that..but maybe the colour of the background? It's not a very attractive colour... No offence Ms. Minuk!! But overall I think that the blog is helpful.

  2. Megan, Thanks so much for your honesty. Next time I see you, will you please help me design the colour scheme? I am sure you have better design sense than I do ! :D

  3. I really like the class blog because when I'm at home with nothing to do I can go on the blog and see what other people are thinking about with the homework, poetry etc. I also think that the blog is really helpful with getting my homework completed especially when I am sick and not at school. It's really helpful because I don't have to look around for people's phone number to find out what I missed at school and it's a lot easier to catch up. One thing that I really like on the blog are the polls. The polls help me see what the majority of the class thinks on a certain situation and it really makes me think about my opinion as apposed to others. I do wish my other classes had a class blog so I could finish the work I missed from all my classes if I was away. I also like referring to the blog when I am stuck on homework...and how I can ask questions to anyone in the class about it at anytime. I agree with Meghan that the colour of the background would be something that I would change for the blog. Another thing that I would add or change would be a section where people can ask questions about the homework if they didn't understand it in class. In general, I think the blog is very useful and I really like the class blog.

  4. Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said.XD In all seriousness I really agree with what Caitlin and Meghan said above. I like how the blog gives you a chance to express yourself and to see what other people think about the many different topics discussed in class. To what Meghan said about more people being active on it, I agree to that too. People should not only visit the blog, but attempt writing in their opinions as well. If their feeling shy they can always post as anonymous. All in all I think the blog is helpful.

  5. i personally like the blog very much because i can see the homework for that day(and previous days) if i forgot to copy it down or if i was away. the blog is also helpful to me because we have access to different things like the McNeill library and the blog is also a place to share our feelings and thoughts on thing and see what other people are thinking in there head because some people are writers and they don't speak out loud so the might have left some of their thoughts out in class. i think the blog is a wonderful place and since there's always a you tube clip to watch about what we are currently studying in class if we watch it it might come as a t-m connection in our reading logs to help us better understand the text.

  8. Great space for learning and recording thinking. I think this has been a successful space and I've been directing other teachers to it as a super example of what's possible.
